NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE
SENIOR DIVISION
AWSWORTH VILLA 1 HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE 2
Attendance 41(Headcount)
Having not been to a match for 3 weeks, the snow had gone and the sun was shinning and I needed to pop over to Awsworth for a after matgch chat as they are one of the host clubs on the Notts Senior League Groundhop on Saturday 20th April kicking off at 3.30pm.
On arrival, I was met by Steve who is now a committee member at Awsworth, having known him from Kimberley Town as the gateman and supporter there for many a year. I walked in to the refreshments area and was greeted by one of the best referees on the scene Mick Leslie and his two assistants.
The game kicked off and was very even with both sides carving out the early chances, but it was Villa in the 14th minute that broke down the left wing through KIERAN SAXTON who round the visiting keeper on the edge of the box before stroking the ball in to the empty net to give his side the lead.
Rolls to their credit tried to hit back straight away but were failing to find that final ball through. Villa were in search for a second goal and the Rolls keeper was called in to action a couple of times. Just after the half hour mark, Rolls felt they should have been awarded a penalty, when their forward went down in the box, but the well positioned ref waved their appeals away. Rolls didnt have to wait long for a equaliser as on 41 minutes ASHLEY MARSHALL put the ball in the net.
After my half time cuppa, the players entered back on to the pitch, but the visitors looked a pace quicker and more eager for the ball. After 55 minutes ASHLEY MARSHALL popped up again and scrambled the ball home to give his team the lead for the first time in the match.
This seemed to wake the homesters up and they poured forward in search of a equaliser but they couldnt find away past the Rolls Keeper, whilst Rolls played on the break and could have added to their total on a couple of occassions.
I must say Mick Leslie had a superb match as the referee and it was good to see him, talking to players to explain decisions made, communicating with his two assistants and refereeing with a smile on his face.
