BULWELL FC 3 MAGDALA AMATUERS 2
Bullwell went in to this match as giant favourites with a perfect 100% League Record to this season campaign, whilst visitors Magdala were sitting halfway in the table, After I rang Bulwell FC sec Andy Radford and found out the game was on and that a programme had been issued, then there was no other choice of where I was going today.
On arrival I got my programme and as Hazel had driven me to the ground with my mum ,I treated them to a nice cuppa and then had a good chat with Andy. The programme I didnt read until on the journey home but it is well worth visiting Bulwell FC who groundshare at Basford United FC, as the programme is of a very high standard. Those who visited this ground on last seasons Ground Hop will notice that a new stand has now been erected behind the top goal and a new turnstile enterance has been built to the side of the ground..More improvements are taking place with a new clubhouse/social club and new changing rooms being built inside of the ground in the near future.
The game kicked off in glorious sunshine and it was the visitors who carved out the opening chances, as Bulwell seemed to play the long ball game and at times it seemed the short easier ball may well have been the better option with the ball going astray. The homeside did have the first chance when the left winger headed just wide from a deep cross. The visitors pushed forward and after 36 minutes thought they had made the breakthrough when a bullet of a shot from 25 yards was tip on to the underside of the crossbar which bounced on the line before being cleared. Just as it looked like it was going to goalless at half time, the ball was played through midfield for SCOTT LITCHFIELD to run on to and smash the ball past the advancing keeper to give Bulwell the lead. Everyone commented over half time refreshments on how well Magdala was playing and deserved something out of the half.
Words must have been said in the home changing room at half time, as it was Bulwell who came out on the attack and after 56 minutes from a left side corner, JAMIE WALKER rose to head Bulwell in to a two goal lead. I think some of the crowd including myself thought Bulwell would go on to win this game comfortable from this postition, but this wasnt going to be the case., as on 73 minutes NICK ELLIOT breached the home defence to reduce the arrears.
This really set the game up for a grandstand finish and Bulwell knew that they were in a match and would have to fight to the end, a couple of subs were made and the ball was slid through to RYAN KING who placed the ball past the 6ft 5 Magdala Keeper to make it 3-1 on 77 minutes. Magdala through bodies forward and with 4 minutes remaining a cross found out the away forward at the back post who did very well to volley past the home keeper.
Must give credit to the referee who handled the game very well and his two assitants as well.
