NEWARK PROGRESS TO THE SEMI'S

CMFL FLOODLIT CUP
SOUTH QUARTER FINAL

BLIDWORTH WELFARE 0 NEWARK TOWN 3

When Hazel said she would drop me off at this game, I had my coat on within minutes. On arrival, I was met by Blidworth Sec Scott( a lovely chap) and Dave Voller. I also met local groundhopper Pete Chappell and had a coffee. The ground began to fill with others that I knew like Barry Clark and Les from Clippo and Newark bought a few folk along as well.

Just before kick off, I walked down the famous Blidworth steps and joined Richard Lane, Malc(the Bearded Wonder) and his best mate Kev along with Steve from Chesterfield.

As the temperture plunged we decided to talk about other games and events that had been going on and put the world to right, as on the pitch Blidworth more than matched their visitors for the first 30 minutes and infact after just 10 minutes could well of took the lead when a Dave Voller strike from 30 yards bounced back off the post.

Half time came and went and my coffee was a blessing, the lady came out the refreshments cabin and shouted that she only had 4 pies left, to which Scott replied I bet Hornby will have those, but I'm on a diet at present and doing very well, but I was tempted but didnt give in.

I thought the Second Half cant be as bad as the first or we was doomed for extra time and maybe Pens..I didnt have to wait long to have that hope disappear when Newark were awarded a free kick just outside the Blidworth box and IAN HILLIER smashed the ball through the wall and it deflected a couple of times before landing in the back of the net.

The game then went through a dull spell with both sides cancelling each other out in midfield and very few chances being created, so me, Kev, Steve and Malc carried on chatting and was joined by Darren Wragg, Brett Marshall and Steve from AFC Mansfield.

With just 10 minutes to go, IAN HILLIER made it 2-0 through a long shot and we all thought that would be the end of the game, but the best was to come, when two minutes later IAN HILLIER hit a 30 yarder and the Blidworth keeper didnt have time to react as it was in the back of the net.

After the match, I went with Darren Wragg to the Social Club and dropped a bit of cash out the fruit machine and then Daz gave me a lift home.

THE CHEMISTS SEND THE LEADERS TO DEFEAT

Notts Senior League
Division One
BOOTS ATHLETIC FC 5 NETHERFIELD ALBION FC 2

After taking my mum on her first ever coach holiday, we returned from Bognor Regis on Friday Night and I hadnt got a match earmarked to go to. This morning I looked at Beeston AFC v Nottinghamshire FC but the venue was altered, so I saw Boots v Netherfield, this match saw 3rd v 1st take each other on with the hosts nine points behind with three games in hand, so a must win game for both sides. Since I'd seen Boots lose away at Underwood Villa last month, they had picked up seven points in the past three matches, whilst top of the table Netherfield has lost their last two matches.

The opening twenty minutes was played at a frantic pace with very few chances being created as both sides cancelled each other out in midfield, then the visitors began to break through the Boots defence but woeful finishing kept the score at 0-0 when it could easily been 0-3. It was during this time that Boots got the lucky break they needed when a ball was played in to the visitors box and the Albion defender volleyed the ball past the lapless keeper to give the Chemists the lead.

Boots came out brighter in the Second Half and looked more likely to add to their total and did so on 57 minutes when the ball was headed home. Boots looked in control in a two goal lead but on the hour mark, the visitors were back in the game when from a corner on the left side was volleyed home from the far post.

On 77 minutes, the Boots number 10 scored the first of his 13 minute hat-trick with a shot from 20 yards out to make it 3-1. Albion decided to go three at the back and got just rewards when they scrambled in a goal on 84 minutes to reduce the arrears to 3-2. Boots then began to exploit the gaps at the back of the Albion defence and after 87 minutes Boots number ten made it 4-2. Netherfield pressed forward but didnt really created another chance before in injury time the Boots number 10 wrapped up his hat trick.

BULWELL FC PRESERVE 100% RECORD

Notts Senior League
Senior Division
BULWELL FC 3 MAGDALA AMATUERS 2

Bullwell went in to this match as giant favourites with a perfect 100% League Record to this season campaign, whilst visitors Magdala were sitting halfway in the table, After I rang Bulwell FC sec Andy Radford and found out the game was on and that a programme had been issued, then there was no other choice of where I was going today.

On arrival I got my programme and as Hazel had driven me to the ground with my mum ,I treated them to a nice cuppa and then had a good chat with Andy. The programme I didnt read until on the journey home but it is well worth visiting Bulwell FC who groundshare at Basford United FC, as the programme is of a very high standard. Those who visited this ground on last seasons Ground Hop will notice that a new stand has now been erected behind the top goal and a new turnstile enterance has been built to the side of the ground..More improvements are taking place with a new clubhouse/social club and new changing rooms being built inside of the ground in the near future.

The game kicked off in glorious sunshine and it was the visitors who carved out the opening chances, as Bulwell seemed to play the long ball game and at times it seemed the short easier ball may well have been the better option with the ball going astray. The homeside did have the first chance when the left winger headed just wide from a deep cross. The visitors pushed forward and after 36 minutes thought they had made the breakthrough when a bullet of a shot from 25 yards was tip on to the underside of the crossbar which bounced on the line before being cleared. Just as it looked like it was going to goalless at half time, the ball was played through midfield for SCOTT LITCHFIELD to run on to and smash the ball past the advancing keeper to give Bulwell the lead. Everyone commented over half time refreshments on how well Magdala was playing and deserved something out of the half.

Words must have been said in the home changing room at half time, as it was Bulwell who came out on the attack and after 56 minutes from a left side corner, JAMIE WALKER rose to head Bulwell in to a two goal lead. I think some of the crowd including myself thought Bulwell would go on to win this game comfortable from this postition, but this wasnt going to be the case., as on 73 minutes NICK ELLIOT breached the home defence to reduce the arrears.

This really set the game up for a grandstand finish and Bulwell knew that they were in a match and would have to fight to the end, a couple of subs were made and the ball was slid through to RYAN KING who placed the ball past the 6ft 5 Magdala Keeper to make it 3-1 on 77 minutes. Magdala through bodies forward and with 4 minutes remaining a cross found out the away forward at the back post who did very well to volley past the home keeper.

Must give credit to the referee who handled the game very well and his two assitants as well.

SELSTON JUST EARN THE POINTS

NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE
Senior Division

SELSTON FC 1 COTGRAVE FC 0
Well a visit to Selston FC for a after match Notts Senior League Groundhop meeting saw me pull in a close encounter before in this Senior Division match which was settled by a bit of a flukey goal.

Always a friendly club, Selston FC are, so I arrived and had a nice cuppa before there was a bit of confusion over the kick off time, with the ref Des Green saying that the officials were sent a e-mail via the league to say kick off was 2pm, whilst everyone said it was a 2.30pm kick off..well after the smile, it was to the pitch for a 2.30pm kick off and the game kicked off at a very high speedy pace on a heavy pitch after the recent snowy weather.

On six minutes, Cotgrave broke and the home keeper was called in to early action, the game carried on with both teams playing some good football but no breakthrough.

Half time came and after my lovely pukka pie, I stood with Underwood Villa's sec behind the goal,as Selston attacked it. On the hour, I said I couldnt see a goal coming, but on 65 minutes AIREY'S mis-hit shot spun past the visiting keeper and spun along the goal line before crossing it.

Selston looked likely to score again but was denied by a outstretched keepers leg and in the final minute Cotgrave had a free kick just outside the area and was fired over.

Ref Des Green had a great game and let it run when he could and spoke to players rather than flash cards around. He was also backed up by his 2 Assistants who had a good game as well.
After the match I went to the Joker Club and had a very good Notts Senior League Meeting and the hoppers are in for a real treat when they visit Selston FC, with them selling Mugs, Shirts, Hats and also real ale..Food at this ground will be Sausage and Bacon Cobs(rolls).

HUCKNALL ROLL TO WIN AT THEIR LEISURE

NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE
SENIOR DIVISION

AWSWORTH VILLA 1 HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE 2
Attendance 41(Headcount)

Having not been to a match for 3 weeks, the snow had gone and the sun was shinning and I needed to pop over to Awsworth for a after matgch chat as they are one of the host clubs on the Notts Senior League Groundhop on Saturday 20th April kicking off at 3.30pm.

On arrival, I was met by Steve who is now a committee member at Awsworth, having known him from Kimberley Town as the gateman and supporter there for many a year. I walked in to the refreshments area and was greeted by one of the best referees on the scene Mick Leslie and his two assistants.

The game kicked off and was very even with both sides carving out the early chances, but it was Villa in the 14th minute that broke down the left wing through KIERAN SAXTON who round the visiting keeper on the edge of the box before stroking the ball in to the empty net to give his side the lead.

Rolls to their credit tried to hit back straight away but were failing to find that final ball through. Villa were in search for a second goal and the Rolls keeper was called in to action a couple of times. Just after the half hour mark, Rolls felt they should have been awarded a penalty, when their forward went down in the box, but the well positioned ref waved their appeals away. Rolls didnt have to wait long for a equaliser as on 41 minutes ASHLEY MARSHALL put the ball in the net.

After my half time cuppa, the players entered back on to the pitch, but the visitors looked a pace quicker and more eager for the ball. After 55 minutes ASHLEY MARSHALL popped up again and scrambled the ball home to give his team the lead for the first time in the match.

This seemed to wake the homesters up and they poured forward in search of a equaliser but they couldnt find away past the Rolls Keeper, whilst Rolls played on the break and could have added to their total on a couple of occassions.

I must say Mick Leslie had a superb match as the referee and it was good to see him, talking to players to explain decisions made, communicating with his two assistants and refereeing with a smile on his face.
