Sherwood Eases To their First Step Seven Victory

CMFL NORTH DIVISION

SHERWOOD COLLIERY 8 WELBECK WELFARE 0
Admission £2
Programme £1
Tasty Burger from BBQ £2.50
Attendance..73 Headcount

At half past two this match looked if it was in doubt, as Welbeck only had a few players in the car park, also we were waiting for a replacement Assistant Referee, to Welbeck's credit they managed to scrape eleven players and get the game started, I say in credit as I have seen other clubs with less than 10 players just turn round and go home in the past.

The match kicked off and it was Welbeck who had the early chances and could well have been 2 up in the first 15 minutes, but then Sherwood settled down to the task in front of them and like buses 2 goals came within 2 minutes to give them control of the game. They were to added another 2 before half time.

Within 30 seconds of the kick off of the second half and Sherwood were awarded their second penalty of the game to which they duly scored. From here on it was a case of how many and if we were to see double figures, though Welbeck never gave up and had a couple of chances of their own. Sherwood with the points in the bag made a few changes and bought on some of the youngsters to give them a run out and they added another three goals before the end.

After the match, Welbeck appointed a new manager who I know will try and do a good job at the club, but he is aware that he will bring in new faces and it will take time to turn things around.

SHIREBROOK RAIN IN THE POINTS

SHIREBROOK TOWN 4 SELBY TOWN 2
NCEL DIVISION ONE
ADMISSION..SEE REPORT
PROGRAMME £1..(excellent programme)

With Hazel away this weekend, it meant where ever I went it was to be by bus..Having looked at the weather, I decided to not travel too far, so took up the invite of Shirebrook Town's kind offer to visit them.

I do have a soft spot for Shirebrook, a little town on the Notts/Derbyshire border, as my grandad Henry Dunstan lved there for many years with my gran Florence and my mother was bought up there, so I must have relatives still living there, as there are quite a few Dunstans so I'm told that live in Shirebrook, I've just not met any of them as yet.

I caught the 23 bus from the end of my road and 20 minutes later I was in Shirebrook, so went to a cafe for breakfast(what a mistake, I went to the worst cafe possibly in the area!). As I left the cafe, the rain began to fall, just where I had no cover, so I sheltered under a tree, until it began to thunder and lighten, so ran up the rest of the hill and in to the clubhouse, where I was greeted by the landlord who remembered me.

Paul then took me in to the ground as his guest, (but it was £4 entrance to which I have put in to the Charitys Blog) and I stood near the turnstile for a chat for a while..One thing that has altered at this club was the amount of committee folks and helpers they now have, which was great to see, as when I have been in the past, it has been the odd one or two people running around doing all the jobs.

I walked over to the far side of the ground just before kick off and took up a position just to the side of the halfway line, when greeted by Clipstone regulars Alan and his 2 mates who joined Mr Bowler Senior in he stand as the rain began to lash down heavier.

The game kicked off and it was the away side who had the first chance with Stephen Boot knocking the ball over for a corner, it all chanced then when Shirebrook started to play neat passing football and on 11 minutes, Lee BOWLER's downward header from 20 yards left the keeper standed to give the home side the lead. Shirebrook then turned the heat up on their opponents and looked like getting a second and we didnt have long to wait when Jake VERNON pounced to score his first of the day.

Just as I was debating whether or not to brave the monsoon to get a cuppa, the visitors were back in it on 44 minutes when they scored.

Some harsh words must have been said in the changing rooms at half time, as Shirebrook looked more up for the half and on the hour they were awarded a free kick which player manager Gary Castledine took and Lee BOWLER headed home his second of the game to make it 3-1. At this stage the home side should have wrapped the game up and gone out of sight but poor finishing left the door ajar for Selby and on 86 minutes they reduced the score to 3-2 and were back in the game for a nervy ending.

Shirebrook broke away as Selby pushed bodies forward looking for a point and Jake VERNON took full advantage as he slotted home his second of the game and made the final score 4-2.

I would like to thank Mr Bowler Senior for a lift back to Mansfield after the match, also the Shirebrook Committee for their kind hospitality.

VILLA COME BACK FROM THE BOROUGH

NOTTS SENIOR LEAGUE
SENIOR DIVISION

AWSWORTH VILLA 2 ATTENBOROUGH FC 1
ATT: 47 (HC)

The old saying goes..a game of two halves and this certainly was just that. I rang up the Villa Sec Chris Cliff this morning to check that the game was on, as the Notts Senior League kicked off its season today, after a friendly chat and confirmation, it was to head to this ground, which will be a beaut for the hoppers on this seasons NSL Hop in April.

The ground is set in a bowl shape, with seats/benches at the top of the hill, giving a excellent view of the pitch and no doubt in the winter months a few people going home with colds!!

On arrival I was met very welcome by the Vice Chairman Kev Buxton and was apologised to by the Programme Editor who had only got back off his holiday and sadly there was no programme for this match only. I was offered a lovely cuppa coffee and as usual it would have been very rude of myself to turn this kind offer down of course.

The First Half, I sat up the hill on a bench with Steve and his friend from Kimberley Town FC, who sadly no one seems to know too much about what has happened, but maybe one day they will re-emerage.

The play in the First Half belonged to the visitors, though both keepers were having quiet games as the half was fading on, until Attenborough got a free kick just outside the area in the 38th minute and though parried ended up in the net. I had just walked along to the next bench to take the photo and got talking to the Attenborough's young keepers parents.

Half time came and went and I'm not sure what happened in that home changing room but something must have been put in that magicial orange juice, as the homesters came out on fire and after just 54 minutes were level, after a fumble by the young visiting keeper saw the ball put past him by his own defender. Nine minutes later and Awsworth broke forward again and took the lead through some very neat football.

Attenborough pressed forward for a equaliser and could well have found one a couple of time but for brave keeping and good defending, though this left big gaps at the back to which Villa could have extended their lead, but in the end they signed off happy with a 2-1 victory.

I must say a special thanks to Mrs Sharon Soal, the Attenborough FCs's Keepers mum who kindly donated £5 to the Blogs Charity.

Away Day Win For Phoenix

CMFL NORTH DIVISION

SHERWOOD COLLIERY 0 PHOENIX SPORTS & SOCIAL 2

Admission £2
Programme £1

Arrived at Debdale Sports Complex just before 5pm as my wife dropped me off on the way to Morrisons, about 5 minutes later arrived the Sherwood Manager Phil Kirkland and Matchday Sec Eric Sipson and the bar manager.

The clubhouse was opened and Steve from Sheffield way bought me a pint of cider then the hoppers began to arrive from all over, the programmes that was ordered were sorted and sold but there was short supply for those who hadnt ordered, so names and addresses were taken and will be sent later in the week.

At the pay enterance, Badges were beginning to be snapped up, as the crowd went in comfortably, as the game kicked off slightly late, due to traffic problems and also some away players getting lost.

The First thirty minutes saw the play go from end to end with few chances being created or midfield to forward play breaking down.

35 minutes gone and cut in by the Phoenix winger saw him beat the keeper on his inside post to put them ahead.

The Second Half saw the homesters push forward and they had several chances to get on level terms especially when the ball beat the keeper  and rolled along a empty goal line before being cleared..It became it clear on 84 minutes that Sherwood would not pick up their first CMFL points when a breakaway goal saw Phoenix double their lead and there was no way back.

Richard Lane drove me home and I'd like to thank him for the £10 donation to the Blog's Charity.

LINBY GO NAP HAND IN CMFL DEBUT

CMFL SOUTH DIVISION

LINBY CW 5 BLIDWORTH WELFARE 2

admission £3(includes Programme & Raffle)
Att: 80

A lovely day marked with the meeting of old friend Adi Ward of Linby CWFC who I havent seen for years, as we chattered and had a cuppa made by his lovely wife Sue, in arrived a couple of hoppers from the York area followed by a chap from down Surrey way.

Before the match, I got chatting to a few familar faces, the ref Tom Knight who was excellent as always today and Assessor Nigel Prost, then came in the guys who encouraged me to do this blog some 3 years ago now, Malc Storer who writes the superb "On the Road" blog and his side kick Kev Goodman. If you havent seen On the Road, then have a look, it is superb. http://ontheroad2012-2013.blogspot.co.uk/

I also had a natter with the Blidworth lads who gave me some breaking news which can be revealed at the end of this report, so please read through!

On to the match and Linby CW crowned their CMFL debut with a 5-2 victory, things couldnt have gone any better, when after only 28 seconds Matt Murphy placed the ball home. Blidworth upped their game but didnt really threaten infact it was the homesters that lookedmore like adding to their tally and on 39 minutes, they did just that through that man again Matt Murphy.

In the Second Half, Blidworth came out with a more positive attitude and pulled a goal back through Carl Gould on 67 minutes, with the clock running down Blidworth pushed forward looking for a equaliser, but were caught napping when Ash Winfield headed home to make it 3-1, but sadly for the Blidworth keeper he collided with the post and his own defender and dis-located his elbow and had to be subbed.

This seemed to spur Blidworth forward and on 88 minutes, Josh Brentnall reduced the arrears again, but as soon as he had scored Linby pushed forward and found gaps and they soon got back their 2 goal advantage through Chaz Niblett.

In to injury time and Linby capped off a impressive debut to the CMFL when Kyle McDermott rolled the ball in to a empty net.

If you have never been to Linby's ground on Church Lane, it is a picturesque ground and the locals are very friendly.

Clipstone Bridged by Worsbrough

NCEL LEAGUE CUP

CLIPSTONE WELFARE 1 WORSBOROUGH BRIDGE ATHLETIC 3

ADMISSION £4/£2
PROGRAMME £1
PIE & PEAS £2
COFFEE 60p
RAFFLE £1

Clipstone Welfare's debut in to the Baris Northern Counties East League Cup ended in disappointment after a strong display and come back by their visitors from Barnsley, who now progress in to the next round to face AFC Emley next Tuesday evening.

Clipstone started the tie brightly and looked the more likely to score with chances going astray, but in the 16th minute, the home side was awarded a penalty to which they duly slotted away to take the lead. The visitors looked a bit shaky at the back as Clipstone kept surging forward but the final ball was not to come.

From the kick off in the Second Half, the ball was sprayed out wide to the Clipstone right winger who sent in a low ball to the Clipstone striker with only the keeper to beat, but the keeper went low and spread his body large and saved the day for his side. This seemed to alter the game, as Worsbrough seemed to gain in confidence and looked to attack at every opportunity and it was no surprise when they were on level terms on 61 minutes. The following attack and it was all change around as the visitors had gone in to the lead on 66 minutes..Clipstone pushed players forward in aid of a equaliser and take the game in to extra time, but the visitors cleaned up the game on 73 minutes when scoring again to make them comfortable and deserved winners in the end.

Belper Nail The Shinners

Pre-season Friendly

South Normanton AFC 0 Belper Town 4

Admission £3
Att: 57

Many a time you see a upset when a club from the lower steps of the pyramid face a club from the higher levels, but today Belper Town came to South Normanton with a very strong squad and showed no mercy to their CMFL South Division hosts.

Pre-match, some flowers were laid by the family of the late CMFL Referee Roger Evans, who sadly passed away towards the end of last season after blowing the final whistle  this ground. A very emotional moment for his wife, yet very fitting.

The game kicked off and The Nailers ran down the slope and had the very early exchanges, so it came as no surprise when they took the lead after just 9 minutes through WARD. They continued to dominate and showed their class apart from in front of goal, where they found Baker in the Normanton's net in fine form.

The Second Half kick off and Belper were straight on the attack and on 49 minutes there was a mix up and the ball was in the back of the net to double their lead through a own goal.

Both sides threw subs on to give them a run out and some experiance and in the 55th minute, HARRISON gave the visitors a three goal cushion.

A monsoon of 5 minutes, saw fans run to the stands, including 16 year old's Ash Hunter who joinedme behind the goal and with 75 minutes played, he entered the pitch with his mum worrying about broken legs!!!!

She need not be worried as on 81 Minutes, he brushed off a defender and took the ball round Baker before placing the ball into a empty net to make the final score 4-0 to the Nailers.

South Normanton seemed to have a lot of new faces in their team and could well gel in time for next Saturdays fixture where they face Sutton Town AFC in the CMFL..Belper meanwhile play Derby County XI on Tuesday evening with a 7.30pm kick off.
